What I've been generally doing is, opening the Windows Explorer, right clicking on the root directory folder where I want to begin my search from, selecting Find from the context menu and searching from the dialog. Then I click and drag the file to the command window to open it.

Thanks, Craig. I don't use VFP 5.0 anymore so that's why I mentioned the version at the beginning of the post.

>>I've found, however, that by issuing MODI COMM ? I can right click the base starting point folder, do the find, then cancel out of the Open file dialog, and back to the Find and drag. I've also found that I can Copy, Cut, and Paste from directly with this dialog. Note, if you're not careful you can inadvertantly move files.

That's cool. Hadn't thought of that one.

As an addendum, the moving files business I described above will occur if you drag the file from the find dialog into the Open File dialog. The file is moved to the directory that Open File is displaying.
