I Steve,
I have goog questions for you. :)
My boss ask me, what it take to traduce a FPW 2.6 and VFP 3.0 App to chines.
What is
Bill2000?
Do you know if it passable to make a application multi-language with FPW 2.6 and VFP3.0 and what do I need to do it?
We have been asked to find out the feasibility of converting our application (currently written in Foxpro 2.6) for the far-east (China, Korea, Japan) market. We are trying to understand what it would involve in term of impacts to the operating system and development environment. From what we’ve found so far, we would first need a MBCS (MultiByte Character Set) version of Foxpro, and then a far-east version of Windows.
It seems that a MBCS version of FoxPro 3.0 exists (I found this information on Microsoft’s Hong Kong web site), but it isn’t clear what is needed in term of Windows version to use this product. Is there also a MBCS version of Foxpro 2.6 or Foxpro 5.0? Do we need to use a chinese version of Windows 95 or NT to use such a development environment? In that case, how can a developer that doesn’t speak or write these languages work in such a environment? Of course we would hire someone who speak these languages to adapt our product, but we can’t assume that all programmers involved in the project speak chinese as well!
We also use many third-party libraries in our product, and we have written many .FLLs (in C) to interface them with Foxpro. What problem should we expect in converting these FLLs to an MBCS platform? What are the steps involved? Will we have to replace all our third-party libraries for a chinese version of our product, or will they display proper information if they’re feed information in MBCS format? Examples of third party products that we use are R&R Report Writer, DynaZip, Creative Controls, Graphic Server, etc…
Merci !
