Could be an alternative route: Pascal then Delphi for knowledge of RAD. Of course, pascal or C in DOS mode. I figure you have to know where you come from to know where you're going.

I disagree...
It's easier to show someone how to program using object oriented concepts when then don't have any other concepts in mind. They will think objects from the start.
