>My 17" Dell Trinitron monitor at work is badly smudged and EVERYTHING I have tried has not worked.... windex, glass plus, all the special "for cleaning CRT screens", anti-static/cleaners, even nail polish remover was suggested by someone.... I think it is some residue from Post-It notes, hand oils, or G-d knows what.... or possibly the monitor glass has some moisture behind the glass that cannot be removed??

Don't use a super-strong solvent, it'll strip the anti-glare coating on most tubes. Eyeglass lens cleaning solution has worked well for me in the past. The odds are very good that you've already damaged the coating if you've used an ammonia-based cleaner on it.

I'ts extrememly unlikely that the vendor is going to give you warranty replacement for a dirty tube, especailly when you've put PostIt notes, hand oils, peanut butter or whatever on it. The warranty doesn't cover improper sanitation! < g >

Given current pricing, I'd look into picking up a replacement locally or from one of the major mail-order houses. I saw an ad for the ViewSonic PS790 (19", short depth, 1600x1200 at 85Hz) from MicroWarehouse for something like $460 (after a $100 rebate from the vendor.) I've seen 17" monitors under $200 now (not as good as what you have now probably, but you can get a very good 17" monitor easily for $250-300. Even the 17" monitors for $195 won't come pre-smudged...)
