On an ancillary note, have you looked at Rick Strahl's wwipstuff for doing email. It's much lighter than outlook and also allows asynchronous emailing. One thing to watch though is that you have to throttle the emails or you'll quickly run out of threads.

We have had trouble from time to time with wwIPStuff doing mass e-mails. Is this the cause? How have you handled "throttling" the emails?
