>>>Yes it makes sense, but they still would like to know what the messages are being blacked out. They all have VFP 6.0 and SP3. I can only assume a video driver problem at this point and they updated their drivers and this did not help.

>We just got done testing out the generic VGA driver and there was no black out at resoulution 640x480 16 colors, 800x600 256 colors, SVGA 1024x768 256 colors. Then went to 1024x768 16bit colors then it started to have the black out problems again. Then went to 1280x1024 with 256 colors and that seems to work OK also. So our conclusion is 16bit color is the culprit. We will be contacting Gateway and let them know. Just thought you would like to know.

Some more info on display tests

Initially, I went back to the old VGA 640x480 16 colors and found out that the problem went away.

After doing additional tests, I determined that the problem arose when I would try to switch from 256 colors to 16 bit color. Screen resolution or monitor type made no difference.

By slowing down the hardware acceleration, I was able to increase the color back to 16 bit without encountering the blacked out dialog box. In fact I could go to 24 bit color.

By slowing down the acceleration even more, I was able to operate at 32 bit color with no problems. I guess the video adapter involved and personal requirements would determine the best settings for each individual.

Hope this helps some others
