It isn't designed for serious development. Yes, you can create programs with it, but you can also create programs with Excel or Word. They all support VBA. VFP is a developer tool. It comes with Visual Studio, another developer tool. VFP is fully object-oriented and has the fastest database engine.

Office 2000 has Developer edition already. MS claims that it was created specifically for developers, with tools that helps easily build, deploy and manage customized solutions.
