There is nothing to stop you using Source Safe to track changes of tables - you just won't be able to visually see any difference when you use the 'Show Differences' tool.

As to the Read only flag, this is just stop you changing files that you haven't got checked out. You can turn this off in the options or you just get the whole project and check 'Make Read Write' (or something similiar). Then you can build your project - if you want the RO property set again, just GET the project again and it will change the attribute.

This is the same for VFP of Fox 26.
