>Ok, I understand that throughput can be a performance issue. I was wondering; if you have a VFP front-end and a VFP back-end is there a simultaneous use problem? If 5000 users all try to access the same table at the same time, who craps out? I would guess the server would die under the load and the front end (VFP) wouldn't know why.

I see Evan already gave a good reply :) What you're talking about isn't a limiting factor for vfp per se, AFAIK, that sort of thing is just server limitation. You can get an overload with any server at some point...You've tried to access a hot new download from MS at peak hours? :)

So the answer is yes, probably if you synchronize enough people to all open a table simultaneously, someone will eventually get a 'Cannot access file" or "File access denied" or somesuch, but you'll get the same thing just trying to run an exe, for example, by many users at the same moment...fortunately, the limitation is pretty high on a good server, and users don't "team up" to all open at once < s >
