Hello Bill,

We have set all the requirements for our project and we are just starting the design phase. Therefore, no coding has been done so far, and no use of MSDE.

Therefore, what I'm describing comes from reading Microsoft specifications on their products...no hands on trials yet...

My understanding is that MSDE and SQL 7 are interchangeable, without any changes in code, as long as you avoid the pitfalls I mentionned before. An indication that this is true would be that Service Pack 1 for SQL 7 also applies to MSDE 1.0. Another indication is that you must use SQL 7 to design your MSDE database. MSDE by itself has no GUI interface....it requires SQL's Enterprise Manager.

But please, don't take my word for it....have a look for yourself at the following web site:
msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/msde

This site should provide you with in-depth details on all the technical aspects of MSDE. And if you own Visual Studio, you may order MSDE and a development version of SQL 7, on CD, at no charge except for shipping charges!

And to fully answer your question, our plan is to use VFP COM objects with MTS for the business logic, and VFP for the GUI interface.

I'd be more than happy to exchange further information with you...this way, perhaps both of us can avoid pitfalls...
