My bottom line is this, I can't think of a better way to show "default" other than "Default", I've said this before, and I'm sorry.

Also, I would rather say on the phone for someone that doesn't know how to Edit an Item: "Now Click on the button called 'Edit'" rather than "click on the button that has a ... < you fill in the blank of a useually goofy icon 'the box with the pencil' >... on it." That would make it easier to teach over the phone for the users that have difficulty with it (far fewer than those that would not understadn the picture IMHO).

The arguements for retail space are good, I've used it myself, I also understand relating pictures to actions ... But ...

(this is to all), all of this is off topic. We could probably create a new thread on the subject, but I wouldn't participate. No Offense, I've already said what I wanted.

Please, Don't get me wrong, I would rather have pictures on buttons for things like IE ("back, forward, stop, print"), but its flashiness really annoyes me.
