In the world of the hackers and warez, it is almost impossible to prevent the reverse engineering of your work, if you release it to a public forum, whether it be as shareware, freeware, retailware, or just post it to your public http account.

What you can do, is protect yourself legally. This is where many of us have a problem. As programmers, quite often we are more interested in the pure creation of our product, with some dollars from it to pay our bills. Many programmers handle themselves more as artists than as business minded folks.

As you develop a project, document in a notebook, or scheduler, exactly what you did on what days. Keep your alpha/beta builds from the project start.
