I agree.

I've been subscribed to another private list for approximately four years. Most people that participate are there for technical reasons.

A couple years ago a couple people started posting numerous off topic (nontechnical) messages and others started requesting that off topic messages go "private" instead of to the general list. This started a small war and the list owners had to step in.

The Guru's went off and started their own list. Questions are answered at their discretion. All messages are individually monitored/approved by the owner(s).

The "off topic" folks were expelled from the first list for using foul language and insulting anyone that disagreed with them. They started their own "anything goes" list.

The original list has new rules. Only technical discussions are allowed. If you get too personal and/or insulting you are expelled from the list.

I kind of like it. If I choose to participate in any one of the three, it is my choice. Of course, if you want to talk to one of the Guru's, everything has to be done their way or you don't get an answer.

History seems to be repeating itself here on the UT. Otherwise friendly, helpful people are taking sides with a few personal insults thrown in here and there. It's really a shame but, I guess that's life.
