>to all,
>i posted this message late last nite and am not sure it was clear enough, here it goes again. i have a form using dataenvironment and textbtns ie add, edit, save, revert, top etc, to manipulate data. if user clicks on add or edit and is in the middle of making changes or adding and the user enters invalid data, i want to be able to stop the add or edit process right there and then, ie send message invalid data then revert data back to the way it was and put focus back on the fully enablbed textbtns, not the save and revert btns that normally would be enabled while editing.

The method I use is the user presses the NEW button to add a record, the form goes into an add mode and putes them on the first text box. If the user changes data on the screen the user automatically goes into edit mode. If the user enters invalid data I validate while they are on text box. They would never be able to leave the text box until the data is validated (or they wish to press the cancel button). I use a lot of combo boxes to choose data from so there is very little invalid data, but when there is the user would know it before they left the field they were on. A messagebox comes up explaining what the problem is and places them back on the text field they were at. I dont wait for them to press a save button to validate data. I know this is just one way of doing things.
