>Shell.Application is a native component of Windows systems which have the Shell version 4.71 or later components installed on them. This includes Win98 and Win2K natively, and Win95 or WinNT with IE 4 and later installed (the shell is also updated by some Service packs which can be applied to NT and Win95, but to do this particular set of tricks, IE4 or later is a manifest necessity.) NetScape does not update the needed shell components, and is not exploitable with it even if the shell components are present, since NetScape doesn't implement the InternetExplorer.Application automation object needed to take advantage of the Shell.Application Windows collection.

>Thanks, Ed. Your info here is very helpful. As I told Erik, I got his sample code to run without error once I understood I had to have a newer version of shell32.dll. Now I need to know how to use shell32 from VFP and what I can do with it. Any source of additional info would be greatly appreciated.

If you have access to the MSDN, you can look under the topic Shell Object in the Index. It is capable of doing a lot of things for you. Another source is Dino Espositio's "Windows Script Host Programmer's Reference" which discusses some application of the Shell.Application object in conjunction with the WIndows Scripting Host.
If you don't have your own MSDN subscription, but have VFP 6 Professional or Viusla Studio 6, check the FAQ - there's an entry there describing how people with these products may qualify for a free one year MSDN Library subscription, and has a link to Microsoft's site to request it if you qualify.
