I, like you, used Default DSes until I ran into a variety of programming situations wherein the Private DS just made more sense. Maybe the type of apps I write are better suited to Private, whereas your apps may be better suited to Default.

I think you're 100% correct: when a developer feels that something is better suited for his job he moves to this direction.
