John's behavior hasn't been exemplary, but please don't put us in a position of having to decide who is more valuable to the user community at larger. John, while controversial, blunt and at times tactless, is every bit the expert and highly qualified person I'd want addressing my problem if I couldn't figure it out myself. Given a choice between John's recent spate of abrasive behavior viewed in the light of his past and probable future contributions to the UT community, I'd want him around, active and vociferous. You don't have to read his messages, and there re enough of us who feel that John's contribution here is invaluable. I'd rather no be pushed into a position where I had to vote whether to keep John around or send you packing. I already know what I'd decide.
Some tact and a little relaxation might help John regain his balance. If he finds it unpleasant here, there are other places he might be able to participate. I'd want to know where he ended up hanging his hat for those times I get stuck and need a solid mind to bounce a bad idea off, or to gain some insight into technologies that he knows and I don't. YMMV. I feel UT would be poorer for John's absense.
