Well, of course you will get better results (much better) if you use indexs on fields where you normally use for queries. But, be carefull, don't use indexs for all fields, otherwise you will decrease performance, since each time you do an insert or delete or update (if you update that field) VFP has to update the index structure.
You told a lot of data? How much? How many transactions are your application holding? How many for day? What machine are you using to be the server? Normally, VFP databases are strong! There are many variables that you must validate to ensure a good performance.
