I think that's being paranoid - this attitude may cause more problems than any Y2k bugs will...

We (most of the US Gov't) are shutting down over the midnight 12/31 period, probably for about 8 hours, other than that, no such paranoia. I just have to be in the morning of Jan 3 (it's "strongly suggested" no matter what vacation plans are). Well, it could be worse - I've been receiving notices from all the utility companys that they will "be fully staffed" at midnight 12/31. So much for their big millennium party :)
