>I guess it begs the question, how does VFP being a pure DBMS language enter into the fact that you don't see VB that often.

I was saying that VFP has a smaller potential market than VB. I the sentence the word that should be emphasized. The other sentence doesn't refer to the first one but to a comment in a previous post.

>Also, what is a pure DBMS language. How is it that VB is not a langauage you can write database apps with.

So can I within C++. But this doesn't make it a DBMS language. Don't play dumbo's here, please..

>There are a lot of business apps written in VB. And, I would be hard pressed to think of a business app that did not deal with data.

Data comes in many different forms, not neccesarely from a DBMS.

To my limited knowledge, VB has no native Data Manipulation Language. It would be odd if a product was called a DBMS if it has not a native DML.

>You don't see VB that often.........??????????
>How about VBA, VBScript.......
>For CE, there are VB and VC toolkits....
>Maybe in your corner of the World it's different. In the other 99%, VB is the tool of choice for projects 80% of the time.

>Seriously, when I look into the adds in the paper here. VB isn't much of a reqiurement up here. There is a demand for all kind of languages like J++, Delphi, Powerbuilder, VFP, VB, (V)C/C++ and a set of other exotic languages. I can't see that VB is requested of lot more often than any of the other.
>
>VBA is not VB. I'm talking about the Visual Basic development tool (Version 5, 6, etc..), not the derived script languages.

>So basically, you are attacking my argument based on what you are seeing in your local newspaper, as opposed to what is going on in the rest of the world.

Note that this message was send to a dutch guy, so I don't consider the situation in the rest of the world here. Even you can't, I know that FP 2.x and even VFP is used in the third world countries. Their limited hardware is often unable to run under Windows. B.T.W. I got this information from one employee of the World Health Organisation.

>Are you saying there are AS MANY VFP ads as VB ads??? I would be impressed if this where true. I know the Netherlands is a hotbed for VFP. In fact, I think it VFP is far more popular in Europe and Asia on a per capita basis than in the US.

I don't count the exact number of adds but yes, I frequently see VFP as a requirement and also for VB. My impression is that VB is not substancial more requested than VFP.

>That said, eventhough VFP may be more popular in Europe and Asia than the US, VB I think is still more popular accross the board.

I never said it isn't.

>Also, it is important to note that VBA is not a script language. It has a form's designer. You can take advantage of basic/class modules written in VB or you can write them yourself in VBA. If you want to write ActiveX controls, you don't need the full VB environment. There is the VB ActiveX Control Creation Edition.... Which is free if I am not mistaken....

Hmm. Ok, I didn't know this. But note that in the beginning I was talking about IDEs.

>Also, you bypassed my points about the VB toolkit for CE. Also, how about the embeddible version of VBA 6.0. Pretty cool stuff there.

I cannot judge on this area, i've no experience with CE in whatever way.

>>>Copy and paste the code between the two environments.... That is where the parity is..
>>
>>Copy and paste ? Seems not very OO to me... ;-)

>Once again, you have missed the point entirely.....

Just a joke, because much of copying and pasting is done in VB where Visual classes are used in VFP.
