I'm not talking about using Java applications, but Java applets. The main advantage is that Java is a full OO language while HTML/DHTML is... :)

So, one can develop using Java and having all the advantages of a modern and powerful language and the result can be run over the www using a browser. (The browser is used only to get html access to the server and start the applet.) Once the applet is started, the browser can be almost ignored. And the user has the advantage of a powerful Windows style GUI.

I don't want to get into a "war" on this subject. IMHO, HTML is POOR for large applications and I wouldn't like to work in a large project that uses HTML for its UI. The development is difficult and the result is, again, poor when compared with the UI of desktop apps. Once again, IMHO, it's difficult to compare HTML with a fully OO language...

As for Java applications, I agree. If portability is not a goal, any other OO language can do the job (BTW, VB is not OO). Comparing programming languages is very difficult and probably nobody can be unbiased for this matter.

>I disagree, Its a point that most people miss. A Browser renders HTML, if I am running an application in a browser, I am going to use HTML as the GUI. If I was going to use java, Why bother to run in a browser? Use of java dillutes the purpose of a browser - rendering HTML. At that point why use java instad of VB or VFP??
