Installed the IM software, and the wheel does not work (this is worse than yesterday, when it worked, but caused errors with VFP exes). I go to the mouse config screen, and the "Enable wheel" checkbox is disabled. Looks like the system does not recognize the mouse as a wheeler.

>On to Ed's suggestion- update the mouse driver. I go to the PS/2 mouse in the device manager and selectot update the driver from the MS site (The old driver is a sn***.vxd from synaptec, and the description says its a driver for the touchpad). MS decides to install a new driver- another one from Synaptec with a different name and a different date. (07/23/98) Looks like the problem might be lack of a good driver. I coudn't find anywhere to get the version of mouse driver that Ed suggested- anybody want to volunteer emailing me the driver they are using? Any other suggestions?

A SWAG, but I'd guess you didn't remove the old driver, and updated from the WIndowsUpdate site instead.

Unless there's unique touchpad functionality, plug the wheel rat in, delete the current rodent from the Device Manager, and reboot. When it detects the mouse, it should see the MS mouse and install the standard MS drivers.
