They are having a big debate over bilingual education here. What you are saying supports the anti-bilingual party-line. They are saying that its the politicos and people in power who want students taught in their native language rather than English.
That way, since they can't read newspapers in English, the news they receive is the news in Spanish (or whatever) from their very same leaders. Who of course are only telling them what they want to tell them.

Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R - Miami) always seems to know nothing about pamphlets going out at election time, in Spanish, telling the voters that she can only represent them because she is Cuban and her opponent is a racist pig who probably screws pigs or something. Yes, it gets that "yahoo-ish" here.
