When I first started building forms, I used the layout toolbar all the time. Then I spent some time making some system adjustments that have saved me countless hours in layout time.

All of my base class controls are strictly vertically sized (with the exception of grid, pagefreame, editbox, etc.) Buttons are the same height as textboxes and combos, and all other controls are in even increments of that. Then in options under form, grid lines is on, as well as snap to grid, and the pixel increment is 12 for both horizontal and vertical. I NEVER size a component to a size that doesn't fit the snap. When controls are dropped on a form, I can just move them into their aligned slots, and be done with it: no inching this way or that: the grid takes care of all alignment and size issues.

This paractice makes all of my forms look very neat and consistent: the edges of controls are never too close to each other, or to the edge of the form or container. All controls are consistently sized, and laying out a form is just intuitive.

Now the only thing i EVER use the layout toolbar for is designing reports.
