A bloke named John O'Grady (aka Nino Collotta) published a beaut book called
Aussie English with a bucket-load of apparantly standard english words and phrases and their fair dinkum meanings.
One of my favourites is
Open Slather"Aw, don't tell me there's no gambling in Broken Hill. I've been there mate -- it's open slather."Another I particularly like is to give someone the oil or give them the drum. This means to give them the facts. If you're actually telling them the truth then you're giving them the good oil.
