Hot keys are the underlined character in the menu prompt and are single key activated when the menu is active. (contrary to popular belief the Edit pad's hot key is E not Alt-E, The Alt key activates the menu and the E key selects teh Edit pad). When the menu is active there is no need to press the Alt key to use hot keys.

OK, referring to your footnote, that's a "JB Class 4" knowledge error :-)
