>I remind you of the title of this thread, "Commonly misused and abused VFP features." My point is that the REPORT PREVIEW is commonly misused. I can tell you that the number of times I and others have dealt with the question, "My report looks great on paper but it is too small to read on screen, what should I do?" indicates clearly that the preview option of the report in VFP is frequently misused.

OK, fair enough. I don't mean to argue. You said:

>9: Reports used for producing a screen display of readable data.

Yes, can certainly be misused.

But this part:

>Reports are for printing on paper, forms are for showing on screen. Report Preview is for eyeballing before committing to paper.

sounds like an absolute. In fact, most reports that don't print more than about 80 characters on one line will look fine at 800 x 600 screen resolution.

So basically I'm thinking that a caveat here would be more appropriate than telling a novice to forget about user's looking at the reports on the screen.

>I made no mention of using grids or anything in particular, but I did say that a form could be built that gave the user the ability to see the data they want to see and even give them options to manipulate that data on screen in a interactive report. Whether that screen had a grid or not is not even an issue here.

I'm having trouble visualizing a form that would present the typical tabular data that I include in a report. If you have time to describe such a form briefly that would help me.

This whole thread has been very valuable.
