It's an issue that has to do with HP's drivers leaving the FPU in an indeterminant state. In many cases, applying the VS SP3 patch to upgrade your VFP6, generating new runtime installs and using the updated runtimes fixes the problem, but not in all cases. Using an MS-supplied driver from an OS distribution is still the safest approach if you are unwilling to go to SP3, and always works.
