>>However, I am with Ed WRT pushy sales people. Ed already said no and that should be the end to it. If the sales person is any good, they should be able to read the customer somewhat. From his posts, Ed doesn't strike me as the kind of person that would convey an aura of vagueness *s*. I am sure the No came out quite clear with the proper meaning.

>>Beating on it, especially when your competitor is right down the block, is just plain stupid IMO.

(to Larry)

Just for clarification its because his competitor isn't right down the block, his competitor is in the next aisle. He doesn't see Circuit City as the competitor his manager does, that sales guy isn't gaining anything by repeat business--he just has to make sure he meets that quota.

Plus not too many of these guys have advance degrees in sales, they are probably only going to work there a short period of time, and either get out of sales, or go on to a better sales job.

>Same answer as I gave Ed. While it didn't work in this case, it might work at a high enough rate to make it worth while.

Nothing is worthwhile in these jobs, you get 6 dollars an hour plus like 1-5% commision--except on the Service contracts there you are likely to get 10% or more. You don't think strategically in these situations, you just want to make sure that dumb manager doesn't come over and give you hell for missing that chance to sell the Service Contract--and telling him Ed said no isn't going to help.

>Maybe these guys are losing money on the sale and the salespeople are told they have to sell a service contract at least 2 out of 3 system sales or they are canned.

You got it.

>No way to know for sure, but maybe.

Work one of those jobs, then you will know.
