Perry,

Do you dislike someone because they are stupid?

These sales guys are for the most part lacking in several areas. One of these areas usually is intelligence. I don't think they are trying to be annoying. I don't think they know they are being annoying. They are just trying to do the best job they can. They are trying to sell. Most of the time they are doing as they were told. I have heard and read sales material that says the most successful salemen don't hear the word "No" the first two times. Well, these guys might just be taking that advice. They might not be smart enough to use common sense and apply it to the times that it doesn't bother the customer.

I am just saying that I think it is a better approach to be aware of who you are dealing with and understand that they have shortcomings. They might not be they type of person with which you would socialize. They might not be funny. They might not be very attractive. And they might be stupid. I don't think any of this is a reason to be angry at the saleperson.

The customer service sucks. That is not the salesman's fault. And I don't expect these guys to go the extra mile and spend their off-hours reading and staying on top of current technologies. They don't get paid enough for that.

As far as a saleman making stuff up goes, I would not defend those actions. Their manager might tell them to BS, but that is something that they should realize is morally wrong. But, lets remember to distinguish between making stuff up and repeating untruths. If they think it is correct information, I don't blame them.

I don't like these big box stores. I only use them for products of which I have sufficient knowledge to make a decision. If I need better pre-sales service, I will go to a store with better service and buy there. One problem is that a lot of people get their advice at one store and then go and buy from a store that has a lower price.

The whole industry doesn't work in a way that can be sustained. If you provide good service, you have to charge higher prices. If you charge higher prices, you don't make the sale.

But, the good news is that there are guys out there (and here on the UT) that have the skills and knowledge to provide good service. While it isn't programming, I enjoy making money diagnosing and repairing people's computers.

Take care,
Joe

>Their customer service in one word SUCKS. Big Time. There used to be several computer chains here. Most of them closed and CompUSA is now owned by a Mexican company. Why? Because their customer service sucked.

>I can understand a company pricing things cause they need to make a buck. But treating customers bad is not excusable at all. I would expect that a salesman would at least tell me he doesn't know instead of making stuff up also.
