>I agree that threads here are far more in-depth. I had a CServe membership thru last month. I haven't used it in a while. Logged on to see the new forum setup and check the VFP forums. I found that many discussions were on a very superficial level compared to here.

I think both places have their share of superficial discussions. Both places also have their fair share of solid technical discussions as well. I certainly don't think CIS is intellictually superior to the UT, nor do I think the converse is true. Both have their respective strengths and weaknesses...

How's that for being PC...< bg >...

>I noticed it especially in the Internet thread. Most of the discussion was about using AFP. One person said he tried to use Web Connection and found it much too difficult.

AFP to me is based on old methods. AFP is what West-Wind was 3+ years ago. Seriously, if you are going to go the AFP way, you might as well use a tool that does stuff like that well - Cold Fusion. AFP goes the way of emedding VFP code inline with HTML. To me, that is not very scaleable. Also, resuse is difficult, if not impossible. I think ASP/Components is the way to go... Just my opinion... I could be wrong...

>However, I do think the CIS interface did have some benefits to here. As a matter of fact, one of the sysops created an interface to scan thru messages. You could download a DBF every month and search using his interface, or browse however you want.

Get a PUTM here and use the off-line reader. Personally, I don't see the offline/archival feature as that big a deal. After all, all the messages since day 1 are available on line here.
