Hi Gil,
Not sure what things are like out there in Edmonton, but here in Halifax there is still some demand for VFP. Note it is not currently as high as it has been, but it is definately still being used by some local companies.
Carl Perkins mentioned in his response the movement to thin client, web based apps becoming very prevelent in Texas, and the case is true here as well. I suspect it is in most places. Obviously, this does *not* rule out the use of VFP. I have found, however, in recent years it has become a selling job to convince clients to use VFP, for the same old reasons we have all heard before.
As a company, almost all of our desktop database application work is done in VFP. Requests for these types of applications are getting scarce. However, we currently have 5 developers doing VFP 6 work on 3 different projects. Three or four years ago our company was almost completely VFP development oriented. At one point we had 13 VFP developers on a single project, not to mention the Y2K bonanza we had for Fox2.x work. Times do change, however.
We usually get on average 1-2 requests for VFP developers per quarter, and because of the local development mind-set shift, we sometines find it difficult to find qualified VFP developers. If you, or others are looking for contract based VFP work, and may be willing to relocate to the Halifax area, I suggest you contact us through our website and create a skills profile (
http://www.dda.ns.ca/resumeonline). It gets scanned for specific skills, including VFP, regularly. No promises, but you never know what might happen.. : )
