The question came up more than once at the last Devcon and other developer conferences where VFP 7 was previewed. The folks on the VFP team are on record with this one....

I can't speak for others, but my customers do care very much about their investments in code over the years. While I am moving them to n-tier designs with encapsulated functions that can be replaced with modules in any language of the future, they still want to know what's happening with VFP and want the assurance that it's not being abandoned anytime soon.
