Soon to be 62.

For what it's worth, I believe you're spinning your wheels on the age thing.

We are all unique from the moment of birth to the moment of death. Even though we are unique as individuals, we all have patterns of behaviour that are similar to others. Our dominate behaviour(s) determine how we are grouped with others by the experts in behavioural analysis. When we were children, there was always a school yard bully. If he moved, someone else took his place. There was always a class clown that thought school was a big joke...that was me. There were always kids that hung with and followed both, and those that did neither.

Circumstances in an individuals life can result in change in that persons behaviour. If those circumstances never occur, then, I guess the person never changes.

At what age does this change take place (if it does)? For your children it could be right now. You are sincerely showing a personal interest in their scouting activities. They're not blind. They see bullies amongest their peers. They see other parents telling their children to behave one way while they behave another. But most important, they see you. From what I've "seen" of you (by reading your posts), I would think you are a good person that leads by example.

FWIW, my first major event happened when I was 20. As a result of the understanding and compassion of a stranger, I got over "the world is a joke attitude". After this, I got a little more education and then developed a know it all attitude. Many people commented that my head was too big for the door but I usually just laughed it off. Remember that old saying: Many a truth is said in jest.

My next major event was again circumstance, not age, related. I guarantee this will work for most. It will melt the big headed ego down to zip and give you what everybody needs a little of....humility! Become a teacher.

You have your support and others with opposing views have theirs. As long as this is the case, I see no hope for your cause, the UT, or the world, for that matter.

Just my opinion.
