I'm 56 - almost the oldest in the replies. Generational? Maybe, but I was discussing some of the last week's threads with my kids (mid 20's) and some of their coworkers (25 - 45) and the response from everyone was that verbal insults should be reserved for private situations, not public. The topic arose because of a cell phone conversation we all overheard that was rife with profanity and insults, and the 'youngsters' brought up the topic of newsgroup behavior during our discussion.
