If looking at different VFP implementations you'll see that the *.DCX file of a database is really a normal .CDX file. In general you can name your index file with almost every extensions you wish, but I think you'll have problems to automaticly open them when you're opening the table.

ahh, i think you're right.

To wai,

Since, VFP includes new datatypes such as Integer and datetime, the CDX also can contain more datatypes. Also a CDX can contain Primary can candidate indexes which were not possible in FP 2.x. So yes the VFP CDXs are somewhat different from their 2.x counterparts, but I don't think the're are significant changes in the internal structure of storing index information. Perhaps you want to explain why you want to know this ????
