Everything VB can do with automation we can do better in VFP *L* preparing to ignore the VBer onslaught

this is untested code, but it should at least get you close:
oWord = createobject( "word.application" )
lnFiles = adir( laWP51Files, "*.wp5" )
for i = 1 to lnFiles
   oDoc = oWord.Documents.Open( fullpath( laWP51Files[i,1] + laWP51Files[i,2]  ) )
   oDoc.SaveAs( lcNewPath + laWP51Files[i,1] + ".doc", wdWordDocument )
   oDoc.Close(.f.)
endfor
You can also use the SaveAs() method.

>I just opened one of them, in Word 97, and can see the long file name and type in the "title" property.

>My client has something like 10,000 file in this format! So just manually opening it and saving it will not work. I need to write a process to automate it...guess it's time to learn Visual Basic? I was hoping that I could handle it in VFP - generate an exe, etc....any suggestions/ideas?
