I'll just say that its harder to find an implementation than what it takes to code it. Anyway, IMO, I wouldn't have editing or deleteing, it could totally change around a discussion or question to the point where isn't even worth having around anymore, where the orginal would.

If this is just to "retract harshness" or whatever, there should be a better way, you could make Sysops easily change messages contents on request. Last I knew, it was difficult, not run of the mill in sysop land. :-)
