>Hi Doug --

>I'm just fine now, thanks. Your sympathy is duly noted, however.

Well, in your prior post you said, "Tsk, tsk, and I'd heard *such* uplifting things about the "technical" sections of this board. What a dissappointment. " so I wanted to make sure you didn't go jump off a bridge or something... *s*

>
>I'm curious.. Tell me about yourself, would you? Where you grew up, your family, and so forth. Did you grow up in Washington state?
>
>I've lived in this area since '73. As to when I "grew up," well, that's a pretty loaded question to be asking in this thread, isn't it? <vbg>

Only to those who's minds think in that fashion. I try and not make that presumption; that is, that others think as I do. The question was legit though if you insist on thinking I might "see" you in the fashion you suggest I'm perfectly willing to so do.

I guess that's what has kind of bothered me about all this stuff in these threads the last little while... I really do enjoy what I do and over the years have grown to enjoy online interaction with my peers. I try very very hard to remind myself that each and every soul sitting behind their respective engines of war *bg* are just like me; folks who are about as intense about what they do as am I. It is arguably very very hard to not get ingflamed at the offhand or deliberate remark that may be nothing more than typed frustration.

I know that there are some VERY STRONG minds about and I guess I'd rather try and help others to remember to focus on the good rather than whatever else they focus on (and no I don't care to always know! *bg*).

I had a tough lesson about seven (7) years ago to learn about life Karl, when I held my son as he took his last breath after being hit by an automobile in front of our home. All this bickering, to me, is awfully silly in light of what I'd term "real life's experiences", don't you think?

I'd no more want to bash you or JVP or anyone else here simply because you are all too valuable; value being determined by the uniqueness of the object. There's only one of you, or me and I think that to take the cynical path is such a waste whenever anyone does it.

>My wife says that up in your area that just over the border are some beautiful gardens (Buchart?) that are worth the trip alone.
>
>Absolutely! Next time you're in Victoria, it's certainly worth a good afternoon jaunt.

Well, I've always been pretty amazed that God could bring different color flowers out of the same color dirt. *g* I still can't quite figure out where He gets the smell rocks though. *bg*

>
>That said, I'm about 300 miles south of there, just north of Portland, Oregon.

Ohh.. For some dumb reason I thought you were north of Seattle. My goof. I've been to Multnomah Falls and they sure are pretty. Oh.. Vancouver, WA, not BC.. Duhhh, nevermind. <g>

>
>I was up in Renton and Redmond last week and, man, it was beautiful! I kept hearing people tell me how nice it was to have a little sunshine. <g>
>
>We don't want folks to think it's nice here all the time. There's already too damn many Californicators tromping through. <g>

Hey, I was born and grew up there so watch yourself pal. <g> Actually, when I grew up there we had all the rest of you guys coming there so as far as I can see, what's sauce for the goos is sauce for the gander. No sympathy from me on that count. <g>

>
>Do you primarily program with VB, VFP or ??
>
>Yeah, VB.

Hmm.. I've played around with it and think it's got some neat stuff. In my case it's on my "Geeze, I wish I had more time to learn that language," pile. I really do need to spend the time.

>
>How long have you been programming and what kinds of projects have been the most fun?
>
>I guess it's going on close to 25 years now. Wow. I like challenges, and seem to find them all around. Most fun? Damn, that's tough. Had a lot of fun writing an HPGL/2 driver, once.

Sayyy.. You must be an old geezer like me (48). *bbg* I think programmers thrive on challenges personally. Something about personal growth and all. HPGL/2 driver? Assembly language?

>
>Have you done much with SQL stuff as John was asking Tamar? Do you prefer a VB front end, VFP, Delphi or ?
>
>Don't do data, sorry. Bores me to tears. :-)

Nahhh.. Data is the lifeblood of computing. <g> I can see you still have some things to learn! *gd&rvvf*

A man is no fool who gives up that which he cannot keep for that which he cannot lose.
Everything I don't understand must be easy!
The difficulty of any task is measured by the capacity of the agent performing the work.
