Mike,
A few points no one else mentioned: I think that, as in any group, there are a few people here with hot tempers. There are a few who like to bait arguments. There are a few long-standing feuds. After all, we're software folks, and the things we believe, we believe passionately.
I think you'll find that people who stay out of the crossfire generally don't have much problem with getting hit. A good soldier knows when to stay in the bunker, and when it's safe to come out.
Welcome to the UT. Be sure to stay around for one of our poetry Fridays!
(I still want to know why George was up so early to post this code!)
>Thanks for yours & everyone elses replies assuring me about the site.

>I thought it was the case that I would not receive abuse/etc., the person who recommended the site wouldn't have done so if it were the case. And the answers to the technical questions I have seen were excellent & polite.

>It just came as a shock the large number of messages regarding the new rules & the fact that the majority were claiming the right to be abusive if they wanted.

>When I get stuck, I'll take the risk & ask questions. I'm not faint hearted and can take some amount of flak (especially good natured), but if it were the norm, then I wouldn't bother with the place. Unfortunately, the web is full of places where abuse is the norm, especially for 'beginners'.
