>Stability was the number one priority for Win2K. If that meant sacrificing compatability, then it was done. IMO, this is a better route. You may want t check with some hardware manufacturers, specifically Iomega and the whoever supplies Compaq with their DC/RW drives to see if they have Win2K drivers.
"Compatibility" covers a lot a territory. I agree with shedding compatibility with old Windows versions and legacy 16 bit code. I would also agree with dropping support for dated hardware devices if that increased stability. But not being able to support current popular hardware devices has got to be seen as a major failing.
Hardware is not my strength. If I can't buy the configuration I need out of the box then I will bide my time or shop elsewhere.
