Most servers [the network OS] are now smart enough to detect a dead connection and will clear such connections. There is no other option but to restart the workstation in that situation. You can usually get away with short disconnects [seconds] and be able to re-establish a connection, but not a minute or two.

>I have this problem guys, I was testing my App for network errors and this is what happened. While stepping through the code I disconnected my network cable from my machine, waited about a minute or two and replaced the network cable. My app realised that the connection was severed and thus tried to re-connect to the SQL Server Database .... but alas it could not re-connect. Even other apps that were not running during the test could not connect to their sql datases on the same server. (NB. All APPS connect to their databases using an ODBC connection and all databases are on the same server.)
