Hi Erik:
Yeah, they definitely shut down UDP ports 137-139 on the new routers. 139 is the NET BIOS port utilized by MS Networking components. This is why I could not map a drive. The cable company said they wanted to save bandwith and tighten security.
Someone here directed me to a web site (sorry, didn't save the address) that would scan your ports and echo back the status. It said port 139 was 'stealth', meaning it couldn't be dectected. Doing the same thing on another machine where I could map drives, using a different provider, reported the port as open.
I dropped the cable service and switched to a DSL provider that offers the connectivity I need. The bad news is it is going to take 6 weeks to install
Charlie
