>>This idea came to me as a result of the recent release of SP4. As was posted here several times, when a new service pack is released, the best way to install a newly compiled version of the application is to create new setup disks and have that run (ostensibly by the user).
>>
>>The release of the SP also prompted the discussion regarding implementation of application launchers to update applications that reside locally, but can be updated from a LAN.

>>Here's the problem...What we'd (or at least I would) really like to be able to do is use the application launcher to check for the existence of a new setup program and be able to run it without user intervention. IOW, in "quiet" mode.
>>
>>Unfortunately, the EXE produced by the Setup Wizard doesn't support any command line switches to do this. So that's the suggestion. Allow the EXE to support at least the /Q parameter for quiet installation.

DD,

>Sure, just wrap any UI stuff. looking for that parameter. I don't recall if the source for that specific Wizard is available but I'd think a little dash of Refox would help that stew. <g>

Boy are you an optimist.:-)

Oh sure, DD. You could throw up a message box saying that a new version (or whatever) was about to be installed, advise them to shut everything down, and when they clicked OK, launch the setup.
