THe Latitude is positioned as the business machine- durable for travel, more solid hardware, etc. Also, have you picked up the Inspiron and the Latitude, and felt the difference in weight? That huge screen (and whatever else they packed in there) makes the Inspiron really heavy.

The Latitude consistently wins PC Mag's award for ruggedness. They are both really good machines, but I will take Dell's word for the intended purposes of each.

FWIW, since I bought my machine, the product lines have blurred some- I'm not sure of the difference anymore.

>Why the lattitude? I looked at them but when I bought my inspiron but no 15" screen was available.

>>I really think that a laptop that sees any travel time should be a Latitude instead of an Inspiron. I have owned both, but my current machine is a Latitude PIII 600 w/256 MB and 18GB HD, and I couldn't be happier with it, and I give it some serious abuse.
