As we have moved to this subject, one request I would like you to consider is limiting the quoted text to the X lines of the previous message. As laziness tends to be the trend, especially for me <g>, many messages require scrolling down dozens of lines before you can see what's new. If the quoted text defaulted to the last 5 or so lines of the message this would be less of a problem. I mean the original message is right there in the map for referral if needed.
