I follow Jim's idea of "Lowest common denominator for the project". In addition I make sure every screen is resizeable so people with good eyes can squash a screen into 100X200 pixels and tuck it in the corner of their 21 inch monitor. Those with bad eyes can expand the screen until they can read it.
There was an interesting thread recently, # 357740 (started 4/10/00) called "Form Resizing" by Frank Cavone (In Forms and Form Designer section). It talked about what users want when they resize a screen. And of course it depends on the user - some need to see everything in a larger size, but others want to expand only grids and editboxes so they can see more of the data.
