As an independent, it's expensive enough to attend these conferences when you consider the entry fee, the airfare to get there, the lost income for the week I'm gone and the ..little.. bar tab that accumulates. But then factor in a hotel room at $160 bucks a night ... OUCH!

I know that you can have a room less than $100 in Boston area (not in downtown, though).
