Charlie,

I too work at home, and this SUCKS! My service is Comcast @home. I went around from leve1 support to level 2 to the NOC to level 2.5 to level 1 and level 2 again before I could even find someone who knew what the heck I was talking about.

I was then informed that the service is "not supported" - warned about trying to "do business" over the connection and finally, told that they wouldn't even talk to me about it.

Otherwise - I love the cable modem - but this hurts big time. fortunately, I still have my 128k ISDN that works - but I had really hoped for those massive download times.

The cable people should get a clue that a HUGE potential market for them is the SOHO bunch. I can understand not putting a big server up on this end of it - that's fair - but to prevent me from logging on to other servers is a bad business choice.

>It happened to me too. They notifyed me indicating they had new and improved cable modems they would like to install free of charge as a service to their customers. After they installed the upgraded modem, I could not map drives to my company network anymore. After talking to several tech support people, I found out they had shut off cetain ports on their routers which were used by MS networking components in an effort to save bandwith and close up some security loopholes. The thing that really makes me mad is they never informed me of this before installing the new modem and now I'm stuck with a 56K modem and having a hard time doing my job because I work from home. Since then, I subscribed to a DSL provider who supported this kind of connectivity. Its been 7 weeks and they still haven't got me online. I feel that was an underhanded thing the cable company did to me. They should have given me advanced warning.
