>I think Montreal would be out of the question because the government would require that all of the signs were in predominantly French, would probably require that the session notes were available in French first and may even require that the sessions are given in French or at least that they are offered in both French and English. I don't see MS or Advisor going to this trouble for a very small percentage of the attendees and I don't think the attendees and vendors would appreciate having the additional costs passed on to them.

Come on Mike you've got to be kidding here. When you don't know local laws well enough you should'nt try to establish probabilities. Are you telling me that it's impossible to have exclusive english classes in Montreal? Maybe the government forgot to tell that to Jim Booth, Kevin McNeish, Rod Paddock and others that came to our monthly FoxPro user's group meeting. The only language that I heard at those reunions was english.

If you personally don't want to come to Montreal tell the real reasons. It could be that you don't want to be surrounded by a lot of french speaking persons or that you don't like the food or that you don't like the weather (if you come in the winter season). But please don't invoke laws that you don't know well enough.

>Toni and I were once denied entry into Canada to teach a class. Apparently the rule was that we had to be contracted by a Canadian company in order to come to Canada to teach a class. It didn't matter that 90% of the students were coming from the US and staying in Canadian hotels and eating in Canadian restaurants for a week either. The only way we eventually got in was by contacting Bernard Wong at Microsoft Canada and getting him to say Microsoft had contracted us to do the class. We had to answer all kinds of questions about whether or not there were Canadians qualified to teach the class and things like that as well. This was post-NAFTA too.

This is sad. But I don't know what justified those actions at that time. Maybe there were good reasons. This case is more delicate to talk about because I don't know all the details here. When was this? Maybe those rules changed.

NAFTA. Who is this thing good for anyway. It seems to me that I never got anything from that deal. Do you think that you ever got something from it? If so could you tell me on which circumstances?

>At any rate, FoxTeach has always been a better conference than any of the Advisor/Microsoft DevCons. Maybe the thing to do is approach Val about having FoxTeach at an alternate or additional Canadian location. I think he'd be a lot more receptive to the idea than MS/Advisor and it'd be a lot easier for him to set up since he's Canadian and his company is a Canadian company.

Maybe it's the case maybe it's not. How can I judge if none of those sessions are given in Montreal. I did'nt have the chance to go to any of those sessions yet. I'd like to but so far it's either I don't have the time to go or don't have the money to go. Montreal would definitely make those sessions more attracting to me. I think that if necessary I would probably get a loan to go these sessions in Montreal ;-)
